I blew it

I love you
and all I ever wanted was for you to be happy
and for me to be the reason why
but I gave up way to easily
believing in my inability to affect you
and so we spent the rest of our time together drowning in unrequited love.

  1. FYI Alison and I are still very happy together. This poem is in retrospect. It doesn't hurt to know how you messed thing up when you did, even when you've been lucky enough to get a second chance.

  2. we all have different loves in our lives, past and done with, present, impossible, secret, botched.. the worse one would be "unrequited"... *sigh*

  3. I agree, unrequited love has got to be the worst. But this piece is not about that so much, as it is about my having believed I was ineffectual, the reason why our love was unrequited.

Someone very wise just told me that it's best to focus on the present and the love that's here now, and I agree with her one hundred percent. We're not really quite present if we are spending our time thinking about what might have been or what could be.
